Although there are lots of varieties of peonies, English has only one word “peony” to indicate all of them. In Japanese, there are “Botan（牡丹）” and “Shaykuyaku（芍薬）”, and I am always confused the differences. I found a good article in English to explain the differences between Botan and Shakuyaku.
